Spellstash · ManaBox alternative
Looking at a ManaBox alternative?
Fair warning up front: ManaBox is a good app. It is scanner-first, the free tier is genuinely generous, PRO is cheap at $2.49 a month, and it holds a 4.7 rating. If your life is scanning stacks of cards into your phone, ManaBox does that well and Spellstash does not scan at all.
The honest one-liner
ManaBox lives on your phone. Spellstash lives on the web and knows where every card is.
Different jobs. Plenty of players use both.
Where the two actually differ
| ManaBox | Spellstash | |
|---|---|---|
| Surface | iOS and Android app. No web app planned, per their FAQ. | Website. Phone, tablet, desktop, any browser. No install. |
| Scanning | Camera scanner, one of the best. Free. | No scanner. Paste lists, import CSVs, or add by search. |
| Where is my card? | Binder-name level, plus registered decks. | Every copy tracked to a named deck, box, or binder with quantity, finish, condition, move history, and an on-loan state. Type a card name, see every place a copy lives. |
| Getting data out | CSV export. Web tools sometimes choke on it; converter scripts exist for a reason. | Imports the ManaBox CSV directly. Exports plain or set-coded lists. |
| Sync | Cloud sync is a PRO feature; their FAQ documents sync failure modes and added restore points to recover from them. | It is a website with an account. There is nothing to sync. |
| EDHREC | Card recommendations in the deck builder. | Companion tools built on EDHREC data: check a deck against the average build, grade it by bracket, watch new cards for your commanders. |
| Price | Free tier plus PRO at $2.49/mo or $22.99/yr and a $1.99 ad removal. | Free tier (5 containers, 1,000 cards) plus Pro at $4.99/mo or $99 lifetime. ManaBox is cheaper monthly. |
The use-both play
If you already scan with ManaBox, keep scanning with ManaBox. Export the CSV, paste it into Spellstash, and use the web side for the part phones are bad at: knowing where everything lives, checking decks against EDHREC averages on a big screen, and pricing whole lists at Card Kingdom in one pass.

Questions people ask
- Is ManaBox free?
- Mostly, and generously: card search, the scanner, binders, and the deck simulator are free. ManaBox PRO runs $2.49 a month or $22.99 a year, with a separate one-time $1.99 ad removal. Cloud sync and some binder creation sit behind PRO.
- Does ManaBox have a web version?
- No. ManaBox is an iOS and Android app. Their own FAQ says a desktop app is in development and that no web app is planned. Spellstash is a website, so it runs in any browser on any device.
- Can I move my ManaBox collection into Spellstash?
- Yes. Export your collection from ManaBox as CSV and paste it into the Spellstash importer. The importer auto-detects the ManaBox format.
- Does ManaBox track where my cards are?
- At the binder level, yes: it shows the name of the binder a card is stored in, and registered decks extend that. Spellstash goes further: every physical copy lives in a named deck, box, or binder, with move history and an on-loan state, and one search shows every location at once.
